We all know the story of Abraham and Sarah. Abraham is the story of faith. God called him when he was a pagan in the Ur of the Chaldeans to leave the only home he knew and take his family and go to a land that God would tell him. Can you imagine having that much faith? God didn’t tell him where he was going. But, Abraham trusted God to the point that he did as God asked Him to do. He packed up his family and his livestock and everything he had and left even though he didn’t know where he was going.
Then, of course, God promised Abraham he would be the father of many nations even though he and Sarah were old and had no children. Can you imagine the thoughts that went through their minds? God said He would, but how in the world? We are past child-bearing age. How can it be? My friends, this is faith.
We also know that Sarah and Abraham tried to help God out by bringing in Sarah’s maidservant, Hagar. You see what a mess we make of things when we think we need to help God and speed things along. It is hard to wait on the Lord.
We have to know that God keeps His promises. God will provide and be with us. Our job is to know those promises. We have to spend time in His Word and in prayer to know His Heart and the plans He has for us. When we know Him, we believe Him. When we believe Him, we trust Him with everything in our life. He has a much better plan than we could ever devise. Have the faith to let Him lead you.
